In 2025, technology company Okta built a 14400 square meter headquarters in San Francisco, designed by the Studio Blitz team. This environmental design project, known as the 'Love Letter to San Francisco', is not only Okta's global headquarters, but also a model of technology driven diverse and flexible office spaces.
Commons floor: a microcosm of the city in 13 blocks
The Commons floor is the core of the entire design, consisting of 13 carefully designed workspaces pieced together. Each space draws inspiration from the well-known neighborhoods near Okta headquarters, incorporating the urban soul of San Francisco into its environmental design.
Strolling through it, you will discover a miniature of the Ferry Building restaurant, a pop-up Cable Car retail store, a Conservatoire of Flowers themed mini golf area, as well as Okta torium collaboration space and Castro Theatre screening room. In the center of the floor is a quiet workspace with first-class facilities, showcasing diverse and flexible design concepts.
Every corner here is a novel, delightful, and surprising scene design designed to support different types of experiences and different team members, "said Melissa Myers, Okta's Global Workplace and Safety Director." Vitality, joy, whimsical ideas, and love for San Francisco are reflected in every tiny detail
Lombard Street: The Perfect Fusion of Art and Function
In the Lombard Street area of Okta headquarters, the use of customized furniture and experiential graphics creates a unique 'Lombard' atmosphere. The original art design works produced internally by the design team cleverly integrate wall decorations and directional signs, which are both practical and artistic.
Koi Projection: The Encounter of Technology and Art
Inspired by the works of San Francisco artist Jeremy Novy, the design team projected a lifelike koi pattern onto the ground. The koi pattern achieved through dynamic projection technology not only visually activates the walking road surface, but also brings multidimensional experience to the greenhouse themed mini golf area.
Oktatorium: Innovation Space for Free Restructuring
Oktatorium is a freely reorganized multifunctional space, cleverly named after the San Francisco Exploratorium. This is not only a place for learning and innovation, but also showcases the flexible configuration supported by intelligent office systems and the adaptability of office furniture - the configuration can be easily reset according to needs to meet the needs of different scenarios.
Sustainable Development: LEED and WELL Double Gold Certification
The Okta headquarters project is expected to receive dual certifications of LEED Gold and WELL Gold, demonstrating its commitment to sustainable development. The design of the conference room is a good example: during the day, it is a conference space equipped with a complete set of audio-visual equipment, and at night it transforms into a Michelin starred restaurant, perfectly demonstrating the adaptability of the space.
Original Art: City Love Letters Everywhere
The entire Commons floor is filled with original art design, from the murals in the training space to the photo library in the conference room, to the signage and wall decorations, all of which embody the Blitz design team's love for San Francisco. Every detail of soft furnishings and design is like a love letter written to this city.
Okta's San Francisco headquarters is not only an office space, but also a perfect fusion of technology and art, functionality and aesthetics, tradition and innovation. It proves that a well-designed work environment can not only enhance employees' sense of belonging and pride, but also become a vivid embodiment of corporate values.
